The new Warrington edition of Monopoly has officially launched. It’s the first look of the long-awaited board revealed at a special event held at Walton Hall and Gardens.

All of the famous multi-coloured Monopoly property squares, like Mayfair and Park Lane from the classic original, are represented by Warrington landmarks and organisations.

The brand new Monopoly Warrington edition game features Walton Hall and Gardens. It has been unveiled as the Park Lane of Warrington. This is next to the Golden Gates, which takes the spot commonly known as Mayfair on the original board.

Fiddlers Ferry Power Station represents the famous electric company square. It forms one half of a utility set, with Lymm Dam featured on the water works square. Other Warrington landmarks featuring include the Town Hall, Transporter Bridge, Warrington Wolves, Warrington Museum and Art Gallery, Victoria Park, and the Pink Eye building.

”We have been wonderfully spoilt for choice putting this unique game together. It’s a board celebrating Warrington’s past and present and is very much reflective of the times.”

“This is really exciting for the people of Warrington and it’s fantastic to know that we’re able to see the completed game for the very first time today.

“It’s great to see so many much-loved landmarks, locations, organisations and charities have made it onto the board – the beautiful Walton Hall and Gardens, the Town Hall and Golden Gates, Old Market Square, Queen’s Gardens, the Transporter Bridge, and even the Pink Eye building!

“I’d like to thank everyone who sent in their suggestions for things to include, and to the people from the various charities and organisations who did a fantastic job to ensure they won a coveted place in the game.

“The organisations featured do amazing work for people and our communities in Warrington, so it’s a great honour to see them take up squares on the board. I’m looking forward to getting the family round to give it a go! “

The Deputy Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Graham Friend.

The Chance and Community Chest cards are themed too. One card sends players back three spaces for getting stuck in traffic on the Thelwall Viaduct. Another rewards players for their best nostalgia photo taken of the iconic nightclub, Mr Smith’s.

The Monopoly money is also customised. It includes motifs of the Golden Gates and the Transporter Bridge – a nod to Warrington’s rich heritage.

“This game without these two heavily recognised landmarks, would be like Monopoly without the dice.”
